Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi i had a CT Angiogram performed as i experienced central chest pain which went into my back it should a mild dilation of the ascending aorta ( diameter at htelevel of the right pulmonary artery 35mm) what does this mean and should i be followed up with a cardiologist and what treatment if any should or could be done if any
HI.. Thanks for choosing HEALTHCARE MAGIC.. Dilatation of Ascending aorta means your major blood vessel is expanded which is a thing you need to react upon seriously.. because an expanded vessel may rupture at any time which is dangerous condition.. You need to consult vascular surgeon or at least a cardiologist as early as possible to take next step.. quit smoking immediately if you have a habit of smoking..Most of time it needs surgery.. Expanded vessel may be caused by -hereditary problem causing weak vessels -smoking -high blood pressure -infections -increased fats in blood which should be taken care of if you have those conditions.
